Scope of the Document
This document is related to the safety in the installation and use of gas systems and appliances. It was published on 1 April 2014.
The essential requirements of this document are:
- New entrants into the gas industry will be required to undertake an industry recognised training course before they are able to undergo assessments from the National Accredited Certification Scheme for Individual Gas Fitting Operatives to become Gas Safe registered
- Persons currently or previously registered and those with a relevant gas qualification are not affected directly by this document
- Persons working outside the scope of Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations are by this document
All developers wishing to provide training for new entrants working under the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations, including training providers wishing to become recognised, will be required to be audited by an independent body, appointed by the Strategic Management Board.
The Strategic Management Board (through industry groups) will establish the specifications for all training leading to the current set of assessments under the National Accredited Certification Scheme for Individual Gas Fitting Operatives required to become Gas Safe registered.
In addition, they will be required to recognise all training that is developed in line with this document to enable a person to become Gas Safe registered.
The Strategic Management Board will appoint and facilitate an independent body to provide the governance for training providers wishing to become recognised to offer training for those working inside the scope of Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations.
In addition, this document provides an opportunity for organisations wishing to recognise training and training providers on behalf of the Strategic Management Board.
Training providers and companies carrying out training leading to assessment under the National Accredited Certification Scheme for Individual Gas Fitting Operatives and Gas Safe registration may have their training recognised directly by the Strategic Management Board or by an approved recogniser of training.
Training providers and companies carrying out training for those working outside the scope of Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations may have their training programmes recognised directly with the Strategic Management Board or through another company which is recognised by the Strategic Management Board.
